We’d like to thank everybody that was a part of Hip Hop in the Park. The performers, the volunteers, the organizers and all of the people that came out and made it such a beautiful day. THANK YOU.
I know it was not perfect; a few swear words slipped… we ran out of water…
But really… Thousands of people came down and enjoyed a beautiful day under the sun, enjoyed the park, the people, the vibes and the best of Edmonton Hip Hop Culture.
Last years event was great, and still we had complaints to the city and the papers… I encourage people to take a minute or two and write a letter or an email to the City of Edmonton (311@edmonton.ca) to praise today’s festival… or to the newspapers. (Edmonton Journal, letters@thejournal. canwest.com) (Edmonton Sun, mailbag@edmsun.com)
Thanks again for everything. I am very happy with the way things turned out today.
Much Luv + Respect,
The Hip Hop in the Park Foundation

The winner of the HHitP 2009 Producers Battle was Joey Dats.

Congratulations to Joey Dats (of The Greater Good) after winning the trophy as Hip Hop in the Park’s 2009 Producer Battle champion. It was a close one; here’s how it went down:
Semifinal A: Jae Mayes vs. Architect - winner: Jae Mayes
Semifinal B: Redef vs. Joey Dats - winner: Joey Dats
Final: Joey vs. Jae in one tough, close, holy smokes, hype battle. Each played two instrumentals and at first it looked like the judges were leaning toward Jae Mayes. Then, overtime was demanded. So in OT, the two went head-to-head once more and Joey Dats came just over the edge as the judge’s favourite. But it was a tough battle. Congrats to Joey Dats.
In case you missed the big producer battle tonight at Wildstyle Wednesdays @ The Temple, the semi-finalists are: Joey Dats, Jae Mayes, Redef and GetNYce (Architect). Congratulations to the four of them who won over 12 other very competitive beatmakers.
The semi-finalists will compete to be the HHitP 09 Producer champion. It’s this Saturday (May 23) @ Louise McKinney Park.
Friends of the Foundation, The Greater Good, got a nice profile in Vue Weekly today, which leads to their 3:50 PM performance at Hip Hop in the Park this Saturday. Read it here.
Just a remind that Saturday morning to 4 pm, there’s a fundraising Garage Sale @ 12707 92 St.
Congratulations to Tanner Lane, winner yesterday’s HHitP’s MC battle at the Temple. He is the first ever Hip-Hop in the Park MC Battle champion, a title we hope to crown many more times in the next few years.
Tanner Lane will be crowned champion Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Hip-Hop in the Park 2009. See him at 5:30, or check out the schedule to find out when your favourite local MC is performing.
