Just announced: CTV Weatherman Josh Classen
2011 Hip Hop in the Park will have a very special guest: Josh Classen, meteorologist and weatherperson for CTV, Edmonton’s most watched news broadcast.
Many people don’t know this, but Josh Classen is also a talented rapper who used to perform frequently in his Saskatoon home. At Hip Hop in the Park, he will be guest hosting from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and spitting some rhymes.
Just two weeks away
We’re just two weeks away from Hip Hop in the Park, and one week away from Hip Hop Appreciation Week.

Last year, over 500 people celebrated Hip Hop’s principles and culture in Louise McKinney Park in spite of the frigid weather. Although attendance dipped four-fold from the year before it, the party never stopped. The mikes stayed hot, the speakers blaring, the spray cans shaking and the barbecue burning. This year — whether it’s plus-20 or minus-20 degrees Celsius — the Hip Hop in the Park Foundation will do it again.
Along with Edmonton’s finest rappers, 2011’s party will see performers from across Canada, including Chadio (Vancouver), DJ Heywood (Saskatoon), Unknown Mizery (Toronto), critically acclaimed MC Jeff Spec (Vancouver/Toronto) and even Holland’s Riskant. A full schedule of performers is available at http://hiphopinthepark.ca/performers.
As always, it’s celebrated on the third Saturday of every May, during International Hip Hop Appreciation Week, which was sanctioned by the United Nations in 2006. This year, in addition to the rapping, break dancing, graffiti writing, DJing and music workshops, the Hip Hop in the Park Foundation is celebrating the culture with events all Hip Hop Appreciation Week.
